At Eventide.
NOW as we come to eventide, and our eyes behold the vesper light,
We give praise to thee, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
O LORD, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.
LORD Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and day is done;
be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts and awaken hope,
that thine abounding grace may be with us evermore. Amen.
KEEP watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night;
And give thine Angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend the sick, Lord Christ,
Give rest to the weary,
Sooth the suffering,
Pity the afflicted,
Shield the joyous,
And all for thy love’s sake.
And dear Lord, we pray for all those who have no one to pray for them; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
On Evensong.
“It was the hour of eventide and the only sounds heard were first the church bells upon the air and then the soft harmonies of evensong rising to the vaulted ceiling. The stained glass was made luminous by the setting sun’s rays, framed by ancient stone. There came an inner peace with a softened heart and an inspired sense of pleasant wistfulness and quiet contentment. This hour wakens our best feelings, disposing us to kindness, benevolence, and friendship. Those whom we love, we seem to love more in this hour. The remembrance of times past in this hour steals upon the mind like a strain of distant music in the stillness of twilight. I believe I thought with more clearness and precision at this hour than at any other, just as my heart softened to its influence.”
– A. W. Radcliffe
For Hope.
MOST GRACIOUS God, whose compassion faileth not, and whose loving-kindness reacheth unto the world's end, comfort, we beseech thee, we thy servants who feel cast down and faint of heart amidst the sorrows and difficulties of the world; and grant that, by the power of thy Holy Spirit, we may be enabled to go upon our way with fortitude and faith, and give thee continual thanks for thy sustaining providence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For the Departed.
ALMIGHTY GOD, we remember this day before Thee Thy faithful servant (N); we beseech Thee to grant us grace so to follow the example of his/her good life and we thank Thee that, having opened to him/her the gates of new life, he/she has obtained through Thee and with Thee and all Thy Saints, eternal rest and victory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Grace.
ASSIST us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of thy servants towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that, amongst all the changes and chances of this mortal life, we may ever be defended by thy most gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Those We Love.
ALMIGHTY God, we entrust all who are dear to us to thy never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come; knowing that thou art doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For a Blessing on the Families of the Land.
ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who settest the solitary in families; we commend to thy continual care the homes in which thy people dwell. Put far from them, we beseech thee, every root of bitterness, the desire of vain-glory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in holy wedlock, have been made one flesh; turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents; and so enkindle fervent charity amongst us all, that we may be evermore kindly affectioned one to another; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A General Thanksgiving.
ALMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies, we, thine unworthy servants, do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and lovingkindness to us, and to all people; We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.
Benediction.
PLEASE grant us blessed peace to cheer us.
MAY the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us.
May the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon us,
and give us peace,
this day and evermore. Amen.

A Parting Petition.
God be with you till we meet again
By his counsels guide, uphold you
With his sheep securely fold you
God be with you till we meet again
When life’s perils thick confound you
Put his arms unfailing round you
God be with you till we meet again
'Neath his wings protecting hide you
Daily manna still provide you.

For the Children.
WATCH over thy children [N and N.],
O Lord, as their days increase;
bless and guide them wherever they may be,
keeping them safe from all dangers and temptations.
Strengthen them when they stand;
comfort them when they are discouraged.
And in their hearts may thy peace which passeth
all understanding abide all the days of their lives,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,

When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
